Airport Strike Alert-ITALY

The Situation:

Employees of Alitalia and Air Italy, as well as ground staff at airports across the country, have announced a strike for Friday, 3 May.


Air Italy employees are planning a 24-hour strike between 00:01 and 23:59 (local time), while some ENAV airport personnel (the company responsible for the provision of air traffic services (ATS) and other air navigation services in Italy) will be on strike for 4 hours, from 10:00 to 14:00.


Please check with your ticket office whether this will affect your flight.

Individuals traveling to or from Italian airports are advised to confirm the status of their flight before departure for the airport and anticipate flight and airport services disruptions.


Possible Effects:

  • Possible protests or demonstrations in major cities

  • Traffic delays due to strikes, demonstrations, etc.

  • Blocked roads due to demonstrations

  • Delayed or cancelled flights

  • Lack of public transportation services including railways, taxis, buses, etc.

Mitigating Factors to Apply:

  • Avoid all protests and demonstration, which have the possibility of turning violent

  • Check with airport to confirm flight status before departure

  • Allow extra time to travel to/from the airport, supplier, and accommodations

  • Avoid travel through major cities if possible, instead using bypasses

  • Monitor local media and news for updates
