General elections are due to take place between 11 April and 19 May 2019. Political rallies and meetings will occur across the country during this time.
Possible Effects:
Strikes, political rallies and demonstrations occur frequently throughout the country and have the possibility of turning violent
Local demonstrations can begin spontaneously and escalate with little warning, disrupting transportation systems and city services
Mitigating Factors to Apply:
Notify the embassy of arrival in the country and enroll in a SAFE traveler program (if available)
Remain alert to changing situations
Avoids all crowds, protests and demonstrations
Comply with Indian government directions, exercise caution, and maintain a low profile
Monitor local media for security updates
Refrain from any negative comments about the government of India. This includes comments made on social media
