Germany Air Staff Strike Alert

The Situation:

Due to 24-hour strike involving cleaning staff beginning at 06:00 (local time) on Tuesday 8

October. Flights are not allowed to take off until the aircrafts are clean. Because of this,

flight delays and cancellations are expected throughout the country from 8-10 October.


Airports immediately affected are:

  • Münster Osnabrück International Airport (FMO)

  • Frankfurt International Airport (FRA),

  • Berlin Tegel Airport (TXL)

  • Munich Airport (MUC)

  • Dusseldorf International Airport (DUS),

  • Stuttgart Airport (STR)

  • Hanover Airport (HAJ).

Other airports not listed have the potential to be impacted as well.


Possible Effects:

  • Possible protests or demonstrations at airports

  • Traffic delays due to strikes, demonstrations, etc.

  • Blocked roads due to demonstrations

  • Delayed or cancelled flights


Mitigating Factors to Apply:

  • Avoid all protests and demonstration, which have the possibility of turning violent

  • Check with airport to confirm flight status before departure

  • Allow extra time for travel

  • Monitor local media and news for updates

  • Enroll in a Safe Traveler Program (STEP) to receive alerts from your preferred embassy
