Travel Disruptions and Protest Activity

  • United States: Because it is Labor Day, travelers inside the U.S. should expect delays, congestion, and disruptions.

  • South Africa: Expect nationwide strikes and protests on September 6 and 7.

  • São Paulo, Brazil: Protest activity is expected on September 7.

  • Italy: A railway strike on September 7–8 is expected to affect travel.

  • New Zealand: A public sector strike is expected on September 9.

  • India: Taxi strikes are expected in New Delhi and Ahmedabad on September 7.

  • Ireland: Protests in Dublin are expected on September 12.

 

Weather and Natural Hazards

  • Southern California and parts of the desert Southwest are expected to see torrential rain and flooding as storms move through this week.

  • The Upper Midwest experienced strong thunderstorms yesterday and today.

  • The Eastern Pacific currently has three hurricanes/tropical storms in a very active period

  • Hawaii may see heavy rainfall this week, especially concerning because the region was flooded a few weeks ago.

  • Central and northern Japan will be impacted by storms.

  • A tropical system south of Japan may bring large amounts of rain.

 

Conflict And Security

  • The Middle East conflict continues to generate concern.

  • Recent exchanges reportedly caused infrastructure damage in Kuwait.

  • No other major damage was reported outside of Iran.

  • U.S. attacks were aimed at military targets inside Iran, with some reports of collateral damage.

  • No major change is expected to air travel in Israel or the region at this time.

  • Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon has intensified in recent days, causing casualties; the situation remains north of the Israeli border for now, but it is being watched closely for possible spread into Israel or deeper into Lebanon that could affect travel.

  • Terror alert levels remain high, especially as the 9/11 anniversary approaches.

  • Travelers were advised to avoid large gatherings if possible, report suspicious activity, and stay prepared.

 

Health Alerts

  • Ebola outbreak: 286 confirmed deaths last week, bringing the total to 3,072 as of September 4, with 548 new cases last week. Both measures are trending upward.

  • Measles outbreak in the United States: 233 cases last week, with a 2026 U.S. total of 3,136 cases as of September 4. This is also trending upward.
