Strikes, Protests, and Disruptions

• Brazil: Nationwide climate protests are expected to affect travel from 19–26 September.

• Australia: A transportation strike is expected on 23–24 September.

• Tunisia: Another transportation strike is expected on 23–24 September.

• New York, U.S.: On 23 September, large gatherings, protests, and traffic disruptions are expected in and around the UN.

• New Delhi, India: Protests and a bus strike are already ongoing and are scheduled to last 19–23 September.

• Jakarta, Indonesia: A motorcycle rally on 24 September is expected to disrupt downtown traffic.

• Morocco: Nationwide protests are expected 25–27 September.

• Chicago, U.S.: LSDS is still watching a potential labor strike involving about 7,000 hotel workers in the hotel and shopping district. If it happens, it would affect travelers near Michigan Avenue. Negotiations are still ongoing and the strike has not yet occurred.

• Several major U.S. hubs experienced delays over the past week due to staffing shortages, construction, and weather.

Weather and Flooding

• Japan: Typhoon Duan is expected to bring high winds, rain, and flooding. Japan has already had significant rain and storms in recent weeks, increasing flood concern.

• Northern Arabian Sea / Southeast Asia: A separate weather system west of Myanmar is expected to bring heavy rain to India, Bangladesh, Thailand, and many parts of Southeast Asia.

Middle East and Security Risks

• The Houthi rebels’ increased activity, especially recent impacts in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

• Houthis have been active in southern and western Saudi Arabia, affecting the Red Sea passage, and have attacked oil fields, Saudi Aramco facilities, and airfields.

• Houthi weapons and drones appears to be increasing, raising the risk of further escalation.

• Saudi or U.S. forces into Houthi-held areas of Yemen, but he expects one soon.

• Continued fighting between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, with no sign of easing after more than two weeks.

• Reporting is improving on the effects of recent Iranian attacks across the region, which is helping build a clearer picture of regional infrastructure and security impacts.

General Risk Guidance

• Terror alerts remain high worldwide and that protests and large gatherings can also be potential terrorist targets.

• Travelers to remain situationally aware, especially when traveling into the Middle East and Gulf states.

• Travelers need to have a contingency plan and prepare for long delays.

• Travelers were encouraged to stay alert and keep situational awareness high throughout the week.
