Notre Dame cathedral Fire Alert

The Situation:

A fire broke out at the Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris.


According to French newspaper Le Monde, the fire broke out in the attic of the historic monument before spreading to engulf a large section of the roof.


Possible Effects:

  • Blocked roads

  • Increased traffic, especially the areas surrounding the Notre Dame

  • Increased presence of first responders and law enforcement

  • Large crowds


Mitigating Factors to Apply:

  • Avoid large crowds, which can attract unwanted attention

  • Allow extra time to travel to/from the airport, supplier, and accommodations

  • Monitor local and social media for updates

  • Enroll in the Safe Traveler program (STEP) to receive warnings from the U.S. Embassy
