The Situation:
The Turkish State Meteorological Service issued snow warnings for various provinces of Turkey until 27 January 2022 at 12:00 p.m. On 24 January 2022, a heavy snowstorm made its way through Greece and Northwestern Turkey. Flights in and out of Istanbul airport were temporarily suspended until 25 January 2022 at 4:00 a.m. so crews could clear runways. In Istanbul, crews continue to work around-the-clock to clear roads and highways of the accumulated snow.
Snow is expected to continue to fall in a number of areas in Turkey, including Ankara and Eskisehir, until 27 January 2022. Flight cancellations and poor road conditions are possible.

Cancelled, delayed, or rerouted flights
Poor road conditions
Power outages in homes and places of work
Closed business due to snow conditions
Mitigating Measures to Apply:
Check with the destination (i.e. accommodations, work sites, etc.) to ensure they are open and operating
Monitor local news and weather media for updates
Allow extra time for travel to and from the destination and airport
Avoid traveling in the evening and early morning hours and during re-freeze periods when road remain dangerous
Keep extra bottled water in lodging
Keep electronics charged and maintain contact throughout the remainder of the trip
Confirm flight itinerary prior to departure to the airport
