The Situation:
Several groups across Catalonia have called for multiple protests between Wednesday, 16
October, and Friday, 18 October, to denounce the Supreme Court's conclusion, which found several independence activists guilty.
Locations are not limited to but may include Barcelona at Plaça de la Universitat, Tarragona
at Plaça de la Imperial Tàrraco, and in Girona at Plaça del 1 de Octubre.
A heightened security presence has been reported, as protesters are starting to gather
across the city.
Associated transportation disruptions are to be expected in the coming hours throughout
Barcelona. Protests in other urban centers across Catalunya are possible. Clashes between
protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out.
Possible Effects:
Blocked roads due to protests
Increased traffic, especially near city centers and government buildings
Protests and demonstrations, which can attract unwanted attention
Limited transportation services, especially throughout major cities
Increased presence of security personnel, such as local police
Mitigating Factors to Apply:
Avoid all protests and large crowds, which have the possibility of turning violent
Allow extra time to travel
Prepare for disruptions caused by public transportation strikes and protests
Avoid traveling through city centers, instead utilizing bypasses
Monitor local and social media for updates
