
The Situation:
According to the National Hurricane Center update at 11 am Monday morning, Tropical Storm Elsa is moving over Cuba Monday and heading towards the Florida Keys. The storm held the status of a category 1 hurricane briefly over the weekend, before downgrading to a Tropical Storm. Tropical storm conditions are expected Monday night through Tuesday night in Florida, coastal Georgia into Wednesday and up into the Carolinas Wednesday into Thursday. Heavy rainfall, gusty winds and storm surge along coasts is possible.
Possible Effects:
Heavy rainfall could lead to flooding along streams, rivers and road ways
Storm surge along coasts
Damaging wind gusts
Downed trees, hindering rescue/recovery efforts
Delayed or rerouted traffic
Cancelled, delayed, or rerouted flights
Power outages in homes and places of work
Mitigating Measures to Apply:
Monitor local news and weather media for updates
Allow extra time for travel
Avoid traveling through flooded areas
Keep extra bottled water in lodging
Keep electronics charged
